Vision screening for kids in Lake Mac

Date posted: 14 November 2017

Children in Lake Macquarie City who are starting school in 2018, can have their eyes tested at a free vision screening drop-in session next month to ensure any eye problems are detected and treated before attending school.

The Hunter New England Health program StEPS (Statewide Eyesight Preschooler Screening) is designed to identify childhood vision problems, which cannot be detected by observation, behaviour, family history or vision surveillance.

Children aged four to five, who attend a preschool or child care centre, are usually screened at their facility and don’t need to attend these sessions.

If you are unsure whether you child has been screened, contact their preschool or child care facility, or the StEPS service on 4985 3401.
