How do I enrol to vote?

I own a property in Lake Macquarie City but do not live there, can I vote in the elections?

Yes, you can. You will need to complete a ‘non-residential roll’ application and return it to Council before Monday 5 August 2024.

I own properties in two wards of the city, can I vote in the election for both wards?

No, it is not possible for any person to exercise more than one vote per ward in a Local Government election, or to be recorded more than once on the same roll for a particular electorate.

I run a business that occupies a property in Lake Macquarie City but do not live in the city, can I vote in the elections?

I’m interested in nominating to become a candidate, what do I need to know?

There are strict laws and deadlines that must be followed to become a candidate. You can find this information on the NSW Electoral Commission website.

Some important dates to note include:

  • Lodgement of nominations open at 8am Monday 5 August 2024
  • Nominations close at 12 noon Wednesday 14 August 2024

Electors who wish to nominate as a candidate in a Local Government election must complete a valid nomination application and present it to the Returning Officer before nominations close. This form will become available on the website in the coming months.
