National Youth Week funding

National Youth Week, Friday 31 March to Sunday 9 April 2017, is a celebration of youth and the contribution young people have in our community.

Lake Macquarie City Council will support a number of National Youth Week events across the City, which aim to give local young people a platform to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and, importantly, enjoy themselves.

Saturday 1 April 10am-2pm Centre For Hope Drop-In Centre at Lake Macquarie Fair Shopping Centre, Wilsons Road, Mount Hutton Centre for Hope 'Be here, be heard' Day Young people are invited to share and showcase their skills and talents, try new activities and meet new friends. The event program will include activities such as music and beats, skating, biking, art and craft. A free barbecue lunch will be provided. For more information or to book, call 4947 2182.
Tuesday 4 April 10.30am-2.30pm Windale PCYC Lake Macquarie Round Robin The Round Robin will feature Aikido, Boxing for Fitness, Floorball/Indoor Hockey and a Police Education session focusing on social media safety. Includes lunch. For more information, call 4948 6622.
Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 April 9am-3.20pm West Wallsend High School Healthy student program A school event featuring guest presenters from an array of sporting, cultural, social, legal and health backgrounds. Includes a series of workshops to develop student's skills, and strategies to build resilience and confidence.
Wednesday 5 April 9.30am-2pm Doyalson Raw Challenge Venue Southlakes Community Services - Youth Raw Challenge Participants have fun, while building team spirit and self-confidence. The Raw Challenge is a 7km course with 55 obstacles and is sure to challenge all fitness levels, provide a sense of achievement and create great memories. Thursday 6 April 11.45am-2.20pm Toronto High School Student wellbeing festival This school event includes a silent disco, sausage sizzle and representatives from local services.
Thursday 6 April 11.45am-2.20pm Charlestown Oval Youth engagement program This program will engage local young people in a range of healthy recreational activities and provide an opportunity to raise and discuss issues of importance to them.
Monday 10 to Friday 14 April 9am-4pm PCYC Morisset Morisset PCYC film production program Free film making workshop for ages 12 to 24 years. Program includes production and filming of pre-written script, pre-production, camera work, sound, acting and post editing. The group will work with Producer, Elise Bailey, and the final film will be shown in Lake Macquarie and a one-off special event to be held at Event Cinemas Kotara and Event Cinemas Glendale. Wednesday 12 April 10am-2pm Holmesville Community Hall and Centenary Park, 22 George St, Holmesville Westy on wheels Participate in a number of creative and fun activities including skateboard design painting. The first 20 young people to register get to take home a skateboard and helmet, or bring your own skateboard and paint on a new design. There will also be a pop-up bike maintenance workshop, a free barbecue and lucky door prizes. For more information, call 0401 534 610.

Who can apply for funds

Any non-profit organisation who is incorporated, or auspiced by an incorporated organisation to fund National Youth Week 2017 activities or events.

How much money is available

Limited grants up to $1000 are available.

What types of events or activities can receive funding

The event must occur within the Lake Macquarie Local Government Area during National Youth Week, Friday 31 March to Sunday 9 April 2017 and be for young people aged 12-24 years.

Applications must must clearly show how the aim and objectives of Youth Week and the Lake Macquarie Youth Strategy 2014-2019 will be met, as outlined in the application guidelines.

Young people must be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the events or activities, as outlined in the application guidelines.

When are funds made available

Grant applications will open Monday 7 November 2016 and close 5pm Friday 16 December 2016.

How are the applications accessed

The Youth Week Committee will assess the applications and allocate funding. Applications that do not adhere to the funding criteria and do not address the questions will not be accepted.
