The Hunter Sports Centre is one of the region's premier sporting venues, boasting Olympic-standard facilities including:

  • athletics centre with nine-lane Olympic running tracks and 10 lane main straight, surfaced with Rektotan synthetic
  • soccer field in the centre of the track
  • gymnastics centre with 2448-square-metres of floor space
  • weights areas for athletes and small group fitness clients
  • first aid/physiotherapy room
  • lighting for nighttime events
  • wheelchair access to all areas and private wheelchair change rooms
  • access for news crews with facilities for outside broadcast
  • catering area with full kitchen facilities for functions
  • parking for up to 240 vehicles

The word kaiyu means 'power, skill and ability' and the word nungkiliko means 'to be successful' or 'to obtain' in Awabakal. kaiyu nungkiliko is the cultural name given to Hunter Sports Centre.
