Registrations are now open for students seeking employment in 2025. 

Students and job seekers are invited to register for a face-to-face Careers at Council Information Session. The event will take place on 5 September 2024 at 4pm to learn about the following positions on offer that will start in 2025. The session is a fantastic opportunity to connect with our leaders and learn more about the traineeships, apprenticeships and cadetships on offer as part of Council’s Education to Employment (E2E) program. You will learn more about the job application and recruitment process. Check out the list of opportunities below.

Education to Employment Program

The E2E Program will allow you to develop skills and gain valuable on-the-job experience while studying for a formal qualification as part of a apprenticeship, traineeship or cadetship. We will support you by offering full time paid employment, paying for your course fees, and providing paid study leave while receiving on-the-job expert mentoring by skilled professionals and teams.

Opportunities on offer in 2025

Apprentice Civil Construction

10 positions including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and female-only positions

  • Two-year program.
  • Study a Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance).
  • Develop skills in civil construction works while operating tools and machinery to construct pavements, roads, drainage, gutters, cubs, footpaths and cycleways.

Apprentice Parks and Gardens

Three positions including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and female-only positions.

  • Four-year program.
  • Study a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens.
  • Learn to create beautiful, accessible, well-maintained
  • open spaces for our community to enjoy.

Apprentice Painter Building Services Project Construction

One position available.

  • Four-year program.
  • Study a Certificate III in Painting and Decorating.
  • Learn the craft of commercial painting and decorating to prepare and finish high quality surfaces.

Apprentice Mechanical Fitter

One position available.

  • Four-year program.
  • Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical.
  • Develop skills in fault-finding of various plant and equipment while using hand tools, power tools and welding equipment.

Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

One position available.

  • Four-year program.
  • Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
  • Develop skills to diagnose, repair, and service a range of light and heavy vehicles, machinery and equipment.
  • Minimum of Provisional driver licence required.

Arts Culture and Tourism Trainees

Three positions including an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander only position.

  • Two-year program.
  • Study a Certificate IV in Arts and Cultural Administration.
  • Support the operation of public galleries, libraries, art facilities and museums while assisting with cultural initiatives, events, and marketing campaigns.

Community Engagement Administration Trainee

One position available.

  • Two-year program.
  • Study a Certificate IV in Business Administration.
  • A unique chance to develop skills in community outreach, event coordination and administrative support.

Cadet Engineer - Infrastructure Assets

One female-only position.

  • For civil, structural or environmental engineering students who have completed, or partially completed their second year of study.
  • Hands-on experience in planning, delivering, and managing our City’s infrastructure assets including roads, pavements, kerbs, footpaths, cycleways, bridges, retaining walls, and drainage systems.

Cadet Engineer – Environmental Systems

One position available.

  • For engineering, data science or environmental science/management students who have completed, or partially completed the second year of study in mechatronics engineering.
  • Support a variety of engineering projects to improve the efficiency of Council’s built assets in terms of water, energy and material use and improve environmental outcomes.
