Registrations are now open for students seeking employment in 2025. 

Students and job seekers are invited to register for a face-to-face Careers at Council Information Session. The event will take place on 5 September 2024 at 4pm to learn about the following positions on offer that will start in 2025. The session is a fantastic opportunity to connect with our leaders and learn more about the traineeships, apprenticeships and cadetships on offer as part of Council’s Education to Employment (E2E) program. You will learn more about the job application and recruitment process. Check out the list of opportunities below.

Education to Employment Program

Opportunities on offer in 2025

Apprentice Civil Construction

10 positions on offer including First Nations and female only positions.

Two-year apprenticeship program with Civil Construction and Infrastructure Maintenance.

Study a Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance), in person study on site with Signature Learning.

Gain technical knowledge and hands-on experience in preparation, excavation, and installation of civil construction and infrastructure works including:

  • pavement and road construction
  • drainage
  • footpaths
  • cycleways and curbs
  • operating and maintaining construction tools and machinery under supervision.

 

Apprentice Parks and Gardens

Three positions available.

Four-year traineeship program with Parks and Gardens.

Study a Certificate III in Parks & Gardens, in person at Kurri Kurri Tafe.

Gain technical knowledge and hands-on experience in creating beautiful, accessible, well-maintained open spaces for our community to enjoy. 

Apprentice Painter Building Services Project Construction

One position available.

Four-year apprenticeship program with Parks and Gardens.

Study a Certificate III in Parks & Gardens, in person at Kurri Kurri Tafe.

Gain technical knowledge and hands-on experience in creating beautiful, accessible, well-maintained open spaces for our community to enjoy. 

Apprentice Mechanical Fitter

One position available.

Four-year apprenticeship program with the Mechanical Workshop.

Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical, in person at Kurri Kurri Tafe.

Gain technical knowledge and hands-on experience in the maintenance and fault-finding of fixed plant and equipment in the workshop while using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.

Arts Culture and Tourism Traineeship

Three positions available including First Nations positions.

Two-year traineeship program in the Arts, Culture, and Tourism department.

Study a Certificate IV in Arts and Cultural Administration, online study via Tafe.

Gain valuable hands-on experience in the operation of public galleries, libraries, art facilities and museum while supporting a range of cultural initiatives, events, and marketing campaigns.

Trainee Concreter

One position available.

Two-year traineeship program with Civil Construction.

Study a Certificate III in Concreting, in person on site with construction trade qualifications.

Gain technical knowledge and hands-on experience in preparation, placement, and pouring of concrete for commercial, and public spaces while operating and maintaining construction tools, equipment and machinery under supervision.

Cadet Infrastructure Assets Engineer

One Female-Only identified position.

For engineering students in the field of Civil, Structural or Environmental Engineering or similar who have completed, or partially completed the first year of study.

Gain valuable skills and experience in the engineering and long-term planning, delivery and management of the City’s infrastructure assets including road pavements, kerb and channel, footpaths, cycle ways, bridges, retaining walls and drainage infrastructure.

Cadet Asset Optimisation Officer

One position available.

For engineering students in the field of Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineer, Electronics Mechatronics Engineering, Data Science or Environmental Science/Management or similar who have completed, or partially completed the first year of study.

Gain valuable skills and experience in the engineering, development and implementation of projects to improve the efficiency of Council’s asset base in terms of water, energy, materials, time and risk management.
