Musicians from near and far will strike a chord for local residents, with the Live Music Lake Mac series starting back up next month.

On the back of successful gigs in December and January, Live Music Lake Mac is continuing to bring some of the best Australian and homegrown talent to local stages.

From humble beginnings busking in Byron Bay, Kyle Lionhart has grown to attract millions of listeners around the globe, playing at Splendour in the Grass and Byron Bay Bluesfest.

He will feature alongside the Hunter’s very own James Bennett at a special Live Music Lake Mac event launching at Warners Bay Theatre, baramayiba, on April 8 in conjunction with the Great Southern Nights initiative.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said Live Music Lake Mac would provide a significant boost to local businesses and the arts industry.

“For two years COVID cancellations have wreaked havoc on local businesses unable to host performers,” Cr Fraser said.

“We’re proud to partner with the Great Southern Nights initiative for the April event.”

Great Southern Nights is a state-wide celebration of live music, with hundreds of gigs across NSW in April and May delivered by Destination NSW and the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) in response to challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first Live Music Lake Mac gig for 2022 kicks off next month when Sydney’s Hot Potato Band and Newcastle’s Luna Menta play at Warners Bay Theatre on Thursday March 10.

Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said the series would run into May, with award-winning local musician Mark Wells and skilled multi-instrumentalist Amy Vee playing at Rathmines Theatre, nawayiba on 5 May.

Mark Wells will perform with his big band featuring local talents Jason Bone, Dave Carter, Matt Gaudry, Robbie Long and Justin Ngariki.

We’re so excited to raise the curtain again and give artists a stage to perform and do what they love,” Ms Hemsley said.

Tickets to each event are $40 and Dine and Discover vouchers can be used for a $25 discount.
