Staying weather alert this winter

From 30 June 2023, Lake Macquarie City Council will no longer subsidise subscriptions to third-party weather alert service Early Warning Network.

The way the community stays informed has evolved since Lake Mac began supporting the service in 2007, with an increase in apps and social media providing accessible weather and emergency updates.

Sustainability Engagement Officer Margo Smith said this was a great opportunity for residents to download the refreshed Hazards Near Me NSW app, which provides information directly from the NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW State Emergency Service.

“The Hazards Near Me NSW app is a free service that gives emergency warnings and advice for fires and floods around the state. You can set up ‘watch zones’ to keep an eye on advice and incidents near your home, your work or the homes’ of family members,” Ms Smith said.

“It’s an easy way for Lake Mac residents to stay up to date with weather warnings and advice, especially as we come into winter.”
