NAIDOC Week grants
Council will consider putting $15,000 toward the 2024 NAIDOC Week program.
This year, NAIDOC Week will be held from Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 July and carries the theme ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud’.
This year’s theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture; with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
If approved, 18 applications for funding will be accepted.
Proposed changes - Lake Macquarie Development Control Plan 2014
Council is considering adopting proposed changes to the Lake Macquarie Development Control Plan 2014 and the draft Foreshore and Waterway Development Guidelines. These changes relate to development along the foreshore and aim to provide clearer instructions for people who want to build in that area.
Since the Development Control Plan was first put in place in 2014, there have been several new local and state planning rules introduced, as well as local plans, all with the goal to minimise impacts of development on the environment and the area’s natural beauty.
The proposed changes are designed to ensure the rules for building in the foreshore area meet the latest legal requirements. They've been open for public feedback from 12 December 2023 to 31 January 2024, and received 11 submissions.
Wakefield – road closure and sale of unnamed roads off Rhondda Road
Council will consider approving a recommendation to finalise the road closure for two unnamed roads which adjoin and traverse through land in the Black Rock Motor Resort Development in Wakefield.
Council approval is also sought for the subsequent sale of these roads to the owner of the adjoining property at 282 Rhondda Road, Wakefield.
The $95 million Black Rock Motor Resort will include a 5.25km driving circuit, luxury accommodation, driver training, a function centre, cafe and go-kart track.
It’s expected to open within two years.
Revision of Council's Customer Charter
Council will consider adopting a revised Customer Charter which outlines the Council’s commitment to our customers and the service they should expect from Council.
The revised Charter has been simplified into an easy-to-read format with amended response times to align with our community’s expectations. The amended response times include reducing response times at the front counter to within one minute and increasing response times to answer phone calls within 90 seconds.
Requests for donations under the Donations Program
Council will consider approving five donations including $2000 to the ADRA OpShop in Morisset, $2000 to Quirky Quilters at St Luke’s Uniting Church in Belmont, $2000 to Eastlakes Physical Culture Club in Belmont, $2000 Eagle Rock Dance Club in Argenton and $1955 to Valentine Hydrotherapy Pools.
