Council’s next meeting will take place at the Administrative Centre at Speers Point on Monday 22 April 2024, with an ordinary meeting starting from 6:30pm.

Lake Macquarie Events and Festivals Strategic Action Plan

Council will consider approving the draft Lake Macquarie Events and Festivals Strategic Action Plan 2024-2028 for public exhibition.

The plan outlines Council’s role in fostering community identity, driving tourism, and stimulating economic activity through a dynamic and expanding events and festivals sector.

The document concentrates on establishing a targeted annual event program, expanding and diversifying the range of events, coordinating major city events through a centralised calendar, and implementing customer-focused online licencing processes.

Lake Mac Libraries, kawumalyikilba Strategic Action Plan

Council will consider approving the draft Lake Mac Libraries kawumalyikilba Strategic Action Plan 2024-2028 for public exhibition.

The draft plan outlines Council’s role in invigorating, evolving, and promoting Lake Mac Libraries for the benefit of our community.

Highlights from the previous plan included construction of the Sugar Valley Library Museum, kirantakamyari, Lake Mac’s first self-access library and creative hub at Wangi Wangi and the design and construction of the soon to be opened Windale Hub, bilyabayi.

Residential flat building and kiosk in Swansea

Council will consider approving a development application for a residential flat building and kiosk at 42 and 44 Lake Road, Swansea.

Residential flat and commercial building in Wangi Wangi

Council will consider approving a development application for residential flat buildings and commercial premises at 81-83 Dobell Drive and 38 French Road, Wangi Wangi.

Dwelling, house, earthworks and driveway in Arcadia Vale

Council will consider approving a development application for construction of a two-storey dwelling, removal of three trees and associated external works at 95 Alexander Parade, Arcadia Vale.

Mayoral Minute – Hunter Joint Organisation of Councils motions to National General Assembly

Council will consider endorsing a Mayoral Minute to lodge four priority regional motions to the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) National General Assembly (NGA) to be held in Canberra from 2-4 July 2024.

The motions, developed by the Hunter Joint Organisation (HJO), cover NGA conference priority areas of intergovernmental relations, financial stability, roads and infrastructure and housing and homelessness.

The first motion calls on the Australian Government to lead the delivery of place-based, whole of government policy and planning to drive the evolution of mining-affected regions toward net zero economies.

National General Assembly of Local Government representatives

Council will consider nominating its representatives to attend the 2024 National General Assembly of Local Government and Regional Cooperation and Development Forum from 2-4 July 2024 and the Australian Council of Local Government on 5 July 2024.

Mayor Kay Fraser, Deputy Mayor Madeline Bishop and Councillors Brian Adamthwaite, Jack Antcliff, David Belcher, Christine Buckley, Colin Grigg and Adam Shultz are being considered for attendance.

Council will also consider approving four motions to put forward at these events.

Traffic Facilities and Road Safety Committee

Council will consider approving three recommendations from the Traffic Facilities and Road Safety Committee. They are:

  • The installation of no stopping line marking restrictions in the cul-de-sac turning head in Pioneer Drive, Morisset
  • The removal of the existing taxi zone and the extension of the no parking (kiss and ride) 8am-9:30am and 2:30pm-4pm school days area on Russell Street, Cardiff
  • The installation of no stopping line marking restrictions in Harmony Crescent, Mount Hutton.
