Council meeting highlights: Ordinary Council – Monday 25 September

Chief Executive Officer’s performance review

Council noted the results from the 2023 review of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’s performance and offered incumbent CEO Morven Cameron a new five-year contract commencing on 1 October 2023.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser congratulated Ms Cameron on her outstanding level of performance and the achievements of the organisation in 2022-2023.

“Ms Cameron’s expertise, enthusiasm and innovative approach has guided Council through unprecedented times over the past few years,” she said.

“Her strong leadership has facilitated our city’s continued growth and I am pleased we have been able to extend her leadership term.”   

Election of Deputy Mayor

Council elected Councillor Madeline Bishop as Deputy Mayor until the next local government election 14 September 2024.

Alterations to Lake Macquarie City Council Ward Boundaries

Council adopted the proposed Ward Boundary Plan. The Ward Boundary Plan will be implemented prior to the September 2024 local government elections.

Traffic Facilities and Road Safety Committee recommendations

Council approved recommendations from the Traffic Facilities and Road Safety Committee. The recommendations include:

  • installing line marking and no stopping signage at the intersection of Stollery Drive and Comel Avenue, Cameron Park
  • removing two one-hour public parking spaces, relocating two taxi parking spaces and installing two additional “No Stopping – Test Vehicles Excepted (9am-4pm Mon-Fri)” parking spaces on The Boulevarde, Toronto
  • implementing the signage and line marking plan associated with an exhibition village at Watagan Park Estate, Cooranbong
  • installing a no stopping restriction on Dobinson Drive and Service Road, Swansea
  • installing no stopping restrictions on Hughes Street, Gateshead
  • implementing the signage and line marking plan associated with the subdivision of 95 Gradwells Road, Dora Creek
  • endorsing the proposed sites for the powerpole Electric Vehicle (EV) charging trial and the signage and line marking plan associated with the project
  • installing a no parking area on Postmans Lane behind No 472 The Esplanade, Warners Bay, and the relocation of the Loading Zone from this location north on Postmans Lane to behind No 468 The Esplanade, Warners Bay.

Ron Brown Way – Naming the shared pathway along Soldiers Road, Pelican

Council agreed to seek feedback from the community regarding the naming of the shared pathway along Soldiers Road, Pelican, the ‘Ron Brown Way’ and pending the outcome of the consultation endorse the naming of the shared pathway.
