Support for the people of Ukraine

Council agreed to support the people of Ukraine and asks the community to donate to charities that are currently providing valuable humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said, the destruction and death that is occurring as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is absolutely devastating.

“I urge residents and businesses of Lake Macquarie to get behind the cause and donate resources to a reputable charity that is involved in the humanitarian response and relief effort,” Cr Fraser said.

“The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade recommends that people consult the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Ukraine appeal website to ensure their donations make an impact.”

Investment Report

Council received and noted the report identifying all money Council has invested under section 625 of the Local Government Act 1993.   

Local Heritage Places Grant 2022-2023

Council approved funding five applications, totalling $11,000 as part of the Local Heritage Places Grant 2022-2023 to assist with the conservation and preservation of heritage buildings in the city.

Draft Catherine Hill Bay Precincts Master Plan

Council approved exhibiting the draft Catherine Hill Bay Precincts Master Plan and associated documents for at least 42 days and inviting community feedback during this time. 

Event Funding Program 2022-2023 round one

Council approved funding 21 applications totalling $111,307 as part of the Event Funding Program 2022-2023 round one. Some of the 21 applications approved for funding include:

  • Sir William Dobell Memorial Committee Incorporated for Dobell Painting ‘Oil Drums’ unveiling
  • Cardiff Northlakes Brass Band Inc for Brass in Concert
  • Newcastle Jets Football Club for a Jets fan day
  • Combined Italian Automobile Organisation Inc for Lago di Macq – Lake Macquarie’s first Italian-themed community event that includes a Lap of the Lake, an Italian-themed festival, cultural food and entertainment event
  • Opera Hunter for The Last Five Years concert
  • Art Lovers Movement Incorporated for an annual art exhibition and sale
  • Tasty Markets and Events for Cinema in the Park
  • Lake Macquarie Music Society for Festival of the Choirs
  • Warners Bay Business Network for Music in the Podium.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said she was very proud that Council could support a range of meaningful, high-quality events.

“We’ve received a variety of applications for round one and I can’t wait to see these community events and celebrations come to life,” Cr Fraser said.

Exhibition of draft Ageing Population Strategy 2022-2026

Council approved placing the draft Ageing Population Strategy 2022-2026 on public exhibition.

Recommendations of the Traffic Facilities and Road Safety Committee – June 2022

Council endorsed the kerb realignment and shared pathway signage and line-marking associated with a developer-delivered shared pathway project on Freemans Drive, Cooranbong. Council also approved the roundabout and associated signage and line-marking plan at the intersections of Pitt Street and York Street, and York Street and Margaret Street, Teralba.

East Ward site inspection – 2A Lake Street, Windale – Windale Gateshead Bowling Club

Council endorsed a review of the signage and line-marking on Lake Street in the vicinity of the Windale Gateshead Bowling Club. 

East Ward site inspection – corner of Merrivale Road and Tennent Road, Mount Hutton

Council endorsed reviewing conditions and consider additional signage, line-marking and modifications to the existing median at the intersection of Merrivale Road and Tennant Road, Mount Hutton, to improve safety concerns raised by residents.
