Council meeting highlights - On the road to bridge renewal
Published on 08 April 2024
Council recommended a proposal to purchase a pocket of road to facilitate its bridges renewal project in Martinsville for approval at tonight’s Standing Committee meeting.
Councillors recommended two items relating to the purchase of roads for widening, including part of 61 and 66 Pointers Road, Martinsville to allow for replacement of an end-of-life bridge.
The Pointers Road bridge is one of three in line for replacement in Martinsville, including two on Owens Road, to improve safety for motorists and access for emergency services vehicles.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said the project was underway with Daracon on site working on the Owens Road bridge replacements.
“There are some 50 properties in Martinsville valley which rely on these bridges for transport and emergency services access,” she said.
“Council is working to replace these deteriorated bridges to modern standards to ensure they meet the needs of these residents.”
The item will go up for approval at the next Ordinary Council meeting.
Councillors also recommended approving the purchase of a portion of road at 247 O’Donnelltown Road, West Wallsend for road widening and drainage improvements.
A donation of $2000 to Gadibundhu Sober Living to assist with the costs of establishing a new website was also recommended for approval.
The website will help provide ongoing support and assistance to people in the community suffering from substance addiction.
Councillors also approved a development application for house alterations and a two into two lot subdivision at a residential address in Redhead.
