Christmas spirit to ignite at Lake Mac Carols

Thousands of families, donning bright Christmas colours, are expected to descend on Speers Point Park for the annual Lake Mac Carols event on Sunday 11 December.
An impressive line-up of performers will serenade spectators, with former The Voice contestant Michael Duchesne and award-winning singer songwriter Amy Vee among the six artists to take to the stage.
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said upwards of 12,000 people were expected to attend the event.
“Lake Mac Carols is one of our biggest events of the year,” Ms Hemsley said.
“We have a jam-packed line-up with on-stage performances, roving entertainment, a variety of mouth-watering food stalls and interactive activities to enjoy.”
Santa, Mrs Claus and festive elves are expected to arrive at 7pm and parade down the promenade before taking to the stage.
Roving entertainment from 3pm will see The Pretty Amazing Jono blow human-size bubbles and walk on stilts.
Holly and Jingles the Christmas elves will also feature.
The Newcastle Jets will host an interactive zone where visitors can test their kicking skills for a chance to win prizes.
An interactive photo booth, inviting attendees to show-off their most cringeworthy Christmas sweater, will also be on offer.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said the event had long been bringing the community together to celebrate Christmas and the year that was.
“It’s just wonderful to see families, grandparents and children all coming together, having fun and celebrating,” Cr Fraser said.
“I am wishing everyone in Lake Macquarie a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!”
Council will also host its IncludingYOU tent, providing a place for people with sensory needs to enjoy the event.
It will include noise-cancelling headphones, sensory toys, weighted blankets and other equipment for use free of charge.
The event runs from 3-8.30pm on Sunday 11 December at Speers Point Park.
