Budding tech wizards to thrive in school holiday program

The sky is the limit for Lake Macquarie kids, who will get a chance to transform a digital drawing into a physical toy as part of an eclectic series of activities running throughout winter school holidays.

Co-founder of Codewise Joe Haig said multiple 3D workshops, for kids aged 8-12 years-old, would go ahead at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima in July.

“It teaches kids how to get ideas out of their heads and into their hands,” Mr Haig said.

“It helps them shift their mindset from being a user of technology to the creator – so it changes their thinking and that’s really valuable.”

Lake Macquarie City Council Lifelong Learning and Audience Development Officer Jessica Dowdell said an innovative dance workshop, NAIDOC artmaking and backpack designing would also go ahead at the Multi-Arts Pavilion during Council’s school holiday program.

“We’ve intertwined an educational aspect into each of these fun and engaging workshops, so kids can get the most of their time spent outside the classroom,” Ms Dowdell said

“We have a jam-packed winter school holiday program with more than a dozen events happening around the lake over the two weeks.”

Joel from JD’s World of Magic will teach kids about the wonders of wizardry during an interactive show at Warners Bay Theatre on Wednesday 6 July.

Warners Bay Theatre will also stage the amusing ‘Rock Sloth Puppet Show’ on Wednesday 6 July.

Meanwhile the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang will host a series of art workshops allowing kids to let their creative minds run rampant.

Intensive learn to swim classes will be held at Charlestown and West Wallsend swim centres so kids can become confident in the water and build on swim safety.

Aqua fitness classes will go ahead at Charlestown’s new learn to swim pool for kids aged 8-12 years-old.
