Acclaimed Lake Mac artist Saretta Fielding will take visitors behind the scenes of her creative process as part of this weekend’s inaugural Meet the Makers event at the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang.

Fielding, a Wanaruah Nation artist whose commissioned works feature in galleries and private collections across Australia and internationally, said Meet the Makers was an opportunity to connect with the community and share her culture and art.

“I’ve always created, for as long as I can remember,” she said.

“I hope visitors enjoy my art, and that it prompts opportunities for further sharing of culture and awareness of local Aboriginal communities.”

MAC yapang Coordinator Jasmine Kean said the Saturday event, held 10am-4pm, would feature more than 40 local artists representing a range of mediums, from painting and drawing to textiles, glassmaking and ceramics.

“It a fantastic opportunity to meet these artists and learn more about their creative processes,” she said.

“But it’s also a unique showcase of locally produced artworks available for purchase, each of which has a unique story to discover and enjoy.”

The day will also feature live music and an 11am artist talk by former National Art School Director Bernard Ollis OAM.

Ollis has held over 80 solo exhibitions throughout his four-decade career, with his exhibition at MAC yapang, Bernard Ollis: Snakes and Ladders, the culmination of that experience.
