Lake Macquarie City Council sincerely appreciates the efforts of NSW Police to investigate November’s administrative centre fire and will continue to assist wherever possible.

Further comment relating to the 53-year-old man charged in relation to the fire would not be appropriate given the matter is now before the courts.

Acting CEO Tony Farrell said insurers were continuing to assess damage to the building, with the bill to run into the millions.

“We’re in the process of finalising an agreement to establish a temporary workspace for the 400 staff based in our Administrative Centre,” Mr Farrell said.

“Staff have quickly readapted to working from home since the fire, but we look forward to providing a shared workspace as soon as possible.”

The Speers Point Administrative Centre is expected to reopen later this year. Council’s Customer Service Centre will continue to operate until then from Speers Point Library.
