Lake Macquarie City Council is working closely with detectives from Strike Force Komiatum as they investigate a fire that broke out at the Speers Point Administrative Centre in the early hours of 27 November.

Council has shared CCTV footage with NSW Police of two people outside the building, shortly before the fire.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz urged anyone with information or dashcam footage captured in the area from 2-4.30am on Wednesday 27 November to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

“We’re grateful for the efforts and bravery of first responders to contain the fire and limit its spread, and also for NSW Police and their hard work rolling out this investigation,” Mayor Adam said.

CEO Morven Cameron said Council was in regular contact with Strike Force Komiatum detectives.

“They are making progress and we’ve been providing everything they have asked for,” she said.

“We are also working with our insurers on the complex and involved task of assessing the damage and devising a recovery plan.”

“We look forward to releasing more information as it comes to light.”
