The food scraps you put into your green bin are processed to make high quality compost which improves soil health, grows better food, and makes our land more drought resilient!

Make sure you always put all of your food scraps in the green lid bin, our local farmers will thank you.

The cycle of food

  1. Make the most of the food you buy
  2. Put all your food scraps in the green lid bin
  3. The scraps are taken to our local composting facility
  4. They are turned into compost and delivered to farmers to grow good food

Here's the scraps you can put into your green bin

With the exception of hard shells from some seafood, all food can go in your green bin including:

  • Bones, meat and poultry
  • Fish and seafood (except the hard shells of oysters, scallops, mussels and clams)
  • Egg shells, cheese, yoghurt and other dairy products
  • Grains, breads, rice, cereals and pasta
  • Coffee grinds, tea leaves and tea bags
  • Grass
  • Leaves
  • Garden prunings
  • All fruit and vegetable scraps

Tips and tricks

  • Put your food scraps into the green compostable bags provided
  • Keep your green lid bin in the shade
  • Freeze your scraps like seafood until collection day
  • Empty your kitchen caddy daily, if necessary, and either hand wash or place in the dishwasher
  • Empty takeaway food into your green bag, but make sure you don't throw the packaging in
