Community Recycling Centre
Announcement
There are temporary changes in place at this facility and currently motor oils, embedded batteries and aerosols cannot be accepted. The community recycling stations at our libraries, works depot and Landcare Resource Centre will reopen Monday 31 March.
We are constructing an additional Community Recycling Facility at Floraville Road, Belmont North to improve access to recycling drop-off services in Lake Macquarie.
The Community Recycling Centre, located at the Awaba Waste Management Facility, is a safe way to dispose of problem household waste, free of charge.
Due to a fire at the processing facility in Sydney, the following problem wastes cannot temporarily be accepted at Awaba Community Recycling Centre:
- Motor oil
- Embedded batteries
- Aerosols
Residents are advised to store these items safely until services are fully back up and running again.
However, you can still dispose of the following wastes:
• Paints (water and oil based)
• Other oils (coolants, cooking oil etc)
• Gas cylinders (no LPG cylinders from cars)
• Fire extinguishers
• Fluorescent light globes and tubes
• Household batteries and light globes
• Smoke detectors
• X-rays
• Comingled recyclables
• Cardboard
• Polystyrene (EPS)
• Soft plastics
• Car batteries
• E-waste
Please wear enclosed shoes when visiting the facility.
Community Recycling Stations at Lake Mac Libraries, the Works Depot and Landcare will reopen on Monday 31 March.
