The 5 Seconds or Less Water Safety Program delivers local beach information, ocean safety and rip hazard tips, a CPR refresher, guides on how to help save a life, discusses jetty and rock jumping, cave dangers, night swimming risks and much more.

Developed and presented by Council’s professional beach lifeguards the program targets Year 7 Students.  We know that as kids commence high school many of them visit our beaches for the first time without parents. It's a scary time for parents and also for kids that may find themselves outside their comfort zone when making important safety decisions.

Sometimes teenagers have only 5 seconds or less to make life-saving decisions at the beach.

With content specifically targeted at this age group, our Lake Macquarie Professional Beach Lifeguards will come to your school and spend 60 minutes with your youngest students to share their expert knowledge and beach experience.

The program is offered between May and August each year. Between September and April our Lifeguards are patrolling our beaches to keep our local teenagers safe.

From the surveyed 2023 participants 100% of schools would encourage other high schools to book a ‘5 Seconds or less’ session!
