Community gardens

Community gardens provide a space to grow fresh organic produce. They also support local food production, healthy living and improve social wellbeing in the local community.

There are a number of established community gardens around Lake Mac. Take a look at the list below for more details about getting involved with your local community garden.

If you are interested in starting a new community garden, please see the process of application below. 

Start a community garden

Step 1.Talk to your community

Find out how much support there is for a community garden in your proposed area.

Step 2.Form a group

It takes an enthusiastic and committed group to establish a community garden.

Step 3.Find a patch of land

Contact us to discuss the best and most suitable options for where to create your community garden.

Step 4.Complete an Expression of Interest form

Complete the EoI form at the bottom of this page, with the initial details of your proposed garden and group. 

Step 5.Application form

If your EoI application is approved, a Council staff member can assist with your official application form.  The application process will require consultation with the local community, a site visit, a concept plan for the garden and a management plan for the garden group. 

Step 6.Grow

Once the application form has been approved, you are able to start work on your community garden. Council can assist in the promotion of your community garden group and its activities.
