Lake Macquarie City Council is calling for expressions of interest from community members to join the Community Environment Grant Committee (the committee).

The Lake Mac Community Environment Grants Program is designed to support community-initiated projects that improve our local environment or inspire environmentally sustainable behaviour in Lake Macquarie City. Not-for-profit community groups can apply for up to $5000 for projects located in the City. These grants are offered twice a year.

The purpose of the committee is to assess grant applications and make recommendations for funding based on an assessment of the merit of the applications against the program criteria.  The committee will be formed by Councillors, staff and community representatives.

The role of a committee member is to individually score the applications and then attend the committee meeting to rank, discuss and determine funding recommendations. The role requires about 10 hours of work (approximately five to eight hours of assessment and scoring, two hours per meeting) for each of the two grant rounds in a year (generally around April and October). Ideally community representatives on the Committee would commit to a minimum of two years on the committee.

If you would like to submit an expression of interest to join the Lake Macquarie City Council Community Environment Grants Committee please complete the application below.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following criteria

  1. Knowledge and connection to local group(s) with a focus on environmental and social sustainability.
  2. Ability to assess and score grant applications.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with other committee members.
  4. Knowledge of Council’s sustainability strategies and plans, or willingness to read Council’s sustainability strategies if appointed.
  5. Reasonable computer skills. Ability to use a computer to access applications and input scores on the SmartyGrant platform (training and support can be provided).

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 26 November 2024 at 5pm.
