We are calling for expressions of interest from community members and industry professionals to join the Aquatic Services Committee.
The Committee will advise on foreshore aquatic facilities and discuss issues relating to use and wellbeing of Lake Macquarie and its estuaries. Members will have an interest in the planning, management and use of the Lake and the ability to offer advice and support for Council staff to successfully meet the actions noted in the Lake Macquarie Lake Activation Strategy.
The Committee will be formed by staff, Councillors and delegates who represent a broad and balanced range of aquatic recreational and governance interests including maritime organisations, community members and statutory bodies.
Up to six maritime organisation representatives are eligible to join the committee. This may include, but not be limited to, representatives from:
- Keel Yacht clubs on Lake Macquarie (Racing and Cruising)
- Dinghies / Centreboard and Trailer Sailing clubs on Lake Macquarie
- Newcastle and Hunter Trailer Yacht Association
- Water-Ski Association on Lake Macquarie
- Recreational fishing groups/associations
- Rowing and canoe clubs
- Marinas / marine business interests
- Marine Rescue NSW
Up to two suitably skilled community representatives are eligible to join the committee. Community representatives do not require formal association with maritime organisations but will have a strong interest, history of use, knowledge and involvement with recreational use of the lake.
Up to four statutory bodies representatives will be invited by Council to join the committee. This may include, but not be limited to, representatives from:
- Transport for NSW
- NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure
- NSW Crown Lands
- NSW Department of Primary Industries
Meetings of the Committee will occur on a quarterly basis at the Administrative Centre, Speers Point for a period of approximately 2 hour per meeting.

Applicants must be able to comply with the following criteria:
- Demonstrable knowledge of lake users, aquatic facilities, issues relating to recreational use of the lake
- A capacity and willingness to make objective, evidence-based decisions
- Relevance of the represented group in relation to the planning, management and use of the lake
- Demonstrated ability to consult with community members and represent views on their behalf
- Ability to attend meetings on a quarterly basis for approximately 2 hours from 5pm weekdays.
