Join us on Saturday 16 September from 11am - 1pm for some creative family fun with Marikit Santiago, high profile Filipina-Australian artist and the winner of the prestigious 2020 Sir John Sulman Prize and three-time Archibald Prize Finalist.

Inspired by Marikit's unique artistic style, we'll be painting on large cardboard boxes to create amazing works of art. Unleash your creativity and learn from a renowned artist while recycling. These painted cardboard towers will be on display at the closing celebration of Marikit's solo exhibition We Eat this Bread on Sunday 17 September from 2.30-4.30 pm at the Museum of Art and Culture yapang.

So gather your friends, family, and fellow art enthusiasts, and let's come together to celebrate creativity and sustainability. Don't miss the chance to be a part of this incredible event and meet Marikit Santiago.

There are no bookings required for this event.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION WE EAT THIS BREAD

The title of the exhibition, We Eat This Bread, takes its name from the well-known Eucharistic Prayer which occurs at the heart of every mass: when we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.

Within this exhibition Santiago presents a series of works that showcase the Last Supper extending the story to consider the rituals, traditions and structures that shape their cultural and social identity.

Through painting, portraiture and installation, Santiago embraces and layers imagery from the cannon of Western art history with rich cultural symbolism that calls upon Philippine heritage, Catholicism, folklore, myth, and personal memories. (Excerpt from catalogue essay by June Miskell).

The exhibition was developed as a solo show at Fairfield City Museum & Gallery. Santiago is represented by The Something Machine, New York

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
