We warmly invite you to join us in celebration of the opening of Two Girls from Amoonguna and Alternating the Cube, with a preview of the exhibitions and introduction from special guest speakers. Wine will be provided by Ernest Hill Wines and light refreshments by Three Bears Cafe.

Two Girls from Amoonguna

Two Girls From Amoonguna is an exhibition featuring new work by Arrernte and Southern Luritja artist Sally M Nangala Mulda and Western Arrarnta artist Marlene Rubuntja. Encompassing video, bush-dyed, handsewn soft sculptures and observationalist paintings, it recounts their intertwining stories of friendship and resilience.

The exhibition is beautiful, poignant, and honest in its portrayal of community life and government control. Arrkutja Tharra, Kungka Kutjara, Two Girls was made in collaboration with Ludo Studio, the Emmy-award winning production company behind Bluey, Robbie Hood, and The Strange Chores, and is an Artbank + ACMI co-commission.

An ACMI touring exhibition. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government's Visions of Australia program.

Alternating the Cube

Alternating the Cube investigates how models of the Artist Run Space or ‘ARI’s’ are a distinctive alternative to the art institution - and a necessary step for many artists to gain critique, grow and contribute to the fold.

What do ARIs say about a community, its infrastructure and willingness to support these critical spaces of exploration? How do we find a balance between culture and gentrification? The ecology of the ARI and its lifespan may be short or long and is dependant of reliability of space and stability of rent and support.

Alternating the Cube will present work from artists connected with spaces directed by artists that operate across the region and invites a contemplation of the lifecycle of an artist.
