TechCreate Girls Program

Digital artwork

The TechCreate Girls Program is an empowering 10 week afterschool program for high school aged girls. This innovative program introduces STEM via creative disciplines, allowing participants to explore and develop a wide range of skills.

Participants will dive into digital art, fashion wearable technology, bioart, and interactive media, learning to merge technology with creativity. By combining these avenues with foundational maker skills such as coding, electronics, laser cutting and 3D printing, the program encourages girls to become confident innovators and future leaders in both tech and creative industries.

At the conclusion of this intensive 10 week program, participants will have developed and refined a final project, which will be proudly exhibited in a public showcase. A special opening event will invite family, friends, and community members to celebrate their achievements, providing participants with the opportunity to present their work, share their creative and technical journey, and gain recognition for their innovation and dedication.

This program is free for participants thanks to a Maker Projects - Community STEM Engagement Grant from the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources.

This program is also being delivered in partnership with the Hunter Innovation and Science Hub.

Timing

Classes will take place on Mondays for the entire school term from 3:45pm-6:15pm.

The program will run each school term from Term 2 2025 to Term 3 2026 and will be free to participate in.

Who is this for?

The program is designed exclusively for high school aged girls (Year 7-12) who are passionate about innovation and eager to explore and learn new skills.

This is a free intensive 10 week program that will require participants to undertake a small amount of work outside class time to complete their coursework, for example, design work. In addition to class time, participants will have free access to the Fab Lab 10am-4.30pm on Saturdays if they wish to have additional time to work on their project at the Fab Lab.

You do not need to live in the Lake Macquarie City Council Area to apply. But need to ensure that you will be able to attend class in person, on time, each week.

What will participants get out of it?
