Join artist Kelly White this school holiday to create beautiful pastel drawings inspired by JJ Hilder's paintings of Lake Macquarie.

Join artist Kelly White this school holidays to create beautiful pastel drawings inspired by JJ Hilder's digital exhibition "Portraits of Water". During the workshop, Kelly will teach artistic skills in recognising and creating composition, colour theory and different methods involved in the application of chalk pastels.

Participants will be led through chosen works from the current JJ Hilder exhibition – Portraits of Water, to learn these skills.

All the materials you need for the workshop will be provided. Open for beginners to more experienced artists above the age of 8.


About Kelly White


Kelly is an accomplished Artist and Educator whose journey began with a focus on Fine Arts at the University of Newcastle where she specialised in Ceramics. Her passion for both art and education led her to pursue Post Graduate studies in Education, laying the foundation for over two decades of teaching experience in Visual Art and Humanities. Beyond the classroom, Kelly has extended her expertise into the welfare sector, increasing her skills with studies in Art Therapy and Youth Work.

Early in her career, her artistic talents garnered recognition with exhibitions at venues such as the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery and participation in the Biennale of Sydney. In 2023, Kelly founded Lake House Clay & Art Studio. Located in Coal Point, her studio serves as a creative hub in the Lake Macquarie Community fostering artistic expression, offering classes, workshops, and events that invite participants to explore the boundless possibilities of clay and other artistic mediums.

Through her studio, Kelly not only shares her love for art but also provides a serene and inspiring space for others to tap into and explore their own creativity.

The Sugar Valley Library Museum is located at the Cameron Park Plaza complex, on Portland Drive Cameron Park. There is dedicated Museum parking and accessible parking available adjacent to the building. The venue has no steps and has accessible bathrooms. The venue is easily accessed by public buses.
