Sustainability, accessibility, inclusivity

The Living Smart Festival takes place on Awabakal country. We acknowledge the Awabakal people as the Traditional Owners of this region and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Sustainability

As sustainability is at the heart of this event, we have worked to make the delivery of the Living Smart Festival as sustainable and low impact as possible. This means focusing on actions including developing a sustainable waste management plan, providing and promoting sustainable transport options, creating compostable and recyclable options for any waste created, providing water refill stations, and working with our vendors to ban single use plastics.

Accessibility

The Living Smart Festival is situated in Speers Point Park, and the terrain consists of mostly flat grass and paved areas. There are a number of designated accessible parking spaces on site at the entrance of Speers Point Park. Unisex toilet facilities are available in the main toilet amenities block, which can be accessed by a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK).

The free bus shuttles to the festival are accessible buses.

There will be AUSLAN interpreters at various presentations across the day. Check out the program to see the details.

Inclusivity

For some people, the crowds and noise of big events can be overwhelming. Having the opportunity to recharge in a quieter space can improve the experience for our festival attendees. The IncludingYOU tent will be on offer at the Living Smart Festival, offering a range of equipment including books, sensory toys and noise cancelling headphones to use at no cost. It also offers a place to retreat from the noisy and busy environment.
