Climate action panel talk
Join a powerhouse panel of individuals that are determined to address climate change. In partnership with communities – be they local or virtual – these change-makers are showcasing practical ways we can contribute to a better, more equitable environment.
Facilitated by Jenny Marchant, ABC Newcastle Radio, the panel members are:
Phoebe McIlwraith, multi-disciplinary Koori creative
Phoebe is a Bundjalung and Worimi Saltwater dubay/galbaan (woman) currently based on Gadi/Wann Country in ‘Sydney’. She is a multi-disciplinary Koori creative with a background in policy, political economy and law at the University of Newcastle. Phoebe first forayed into climate politics with Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network and continues to advocate for First Nations-led sustainability.
Gina Chick, winner season one, Alone Australia
Gina is an author, a speaker, a musician and rewilding facilitator. She became a familiar face when she appeared in Alone Australia season one, a reality tv competition aired on SBS that saw Gina survive – completely alone – in the Tasmanian wilderness for 67 days.
Anna Noon, co-founder of The Groundswell Collective
Anna is co-founder of the local sustainability not-for-profit The Groundswell Collective. She has been recognised as the 2024 Lake Mac Volunteer of the Year, a NSW Women of the Year – Community Hero finalist, and this year’s Taronga Hatch Accelerator Program winner. She leads practical activities ranging from seed libraries through to building tiny forests.
Sarah Aubrey, founder and author of @electrify_this
Sarah is one of Australia’s most respected electrification advocates. Sarah is a powerhouse when it comes to sharing and simplifying the facts about accessible, clean energy and electric cars. Sarah is the founder of electrify_this, where she publishes tips and tricks for home efficiency and electrification on social. Her down to earth approach has drawn a legion of followers from across the globe.
Alexa Stuart, activist and 2020 Newcastle Young Citizen of the Year
Alexa Stuart is a 20-year-old climate justice activist who was a key leader in the School Strike 4 Climate movement both in Newcastle and nationally. Since graduating high school Alexa has continued to dedicate herself to activism. She was a co-coordinator of the Gas Free Hunter Alliance and is now a full-time organiser with Rising Tide, a Newcastle-based movement that’s rapidly growing right around the country. In 2020 she was named Newcastle young citizen of the year for her environmental advocacy.
