Lake Mac Women in Sport Festival

Join us for the annual Women in Sport Festival from 7-16 March 2025 for a week of fun activities which empower young girls and women in sport. 

Local sporting groups will provide the chance to come and try a new sport – tennis, rugby, croquet or aikido.

The Try a Sport expo is designed to allow local community members the chance to come and try or get a taste of the sports on offer within Lake Macquarie. In addition to the expo, each of the sporting groups is hosting their own come and try sessions throughout the week where you can check out their venue, try a sport and make a new connection. 

Please note the all-women line up of Music in the Podium scheduled for Friday 7 March has been cancelled due to the weather. The Try a Sport Expo schedule for Friday 7 March has been postponed to Friday 14 March.  

What is the festival about?

The festival is a week-long celebration of women and sport, tied together by five themes:

  • Empowerment
  • Advocacy
  • Athletic excellence
  • Community and wellbeing
  • Professional development of Women in Sports Administration

The festival is designed to:

  • Increase awareness of the health and social benefits of taking up sport and/or exercise.
  • Encourage more women and girls remain active throughout their different life stages
  • Provide local sporting groups, organisations and businesses increased exposure and the opportunity to boost their membership/customer base.
  • Celebrate the athletic excellence of local and national professional, and amateur sportswomen.
