Council is responsible for assigning house numbers and addresses within the Lake Macquarie Local Government Area.

Step 1.Important information to know

When assigning addresses, Council complies with Australian Standard or Rural and Urban addressing - AS/NZS 4819:2011, and the NSW Geographical Names Board's NSW Address Policy and User Manual.

Once an address has been allocated to a property, we forward the information to the NSW Spatial Services who maintain a central database.  This database is used by the NSW Land Registry Services, emergency services and telecommunication authorities.  We also notify Australia Post, Ausgrid, Electoral Office, Hunter Water, Jemena Gas, NBN Co, Telstra 000 Emergency services.

Step 2.Gather your documents

To apply for a new house/unit address number you will need to provide the following information:

  • Lot and Deposited Plan/Strata Plan information, if available
  • Draft Torrens Title or Strata subdivision plan, if available

Step 3.Apply

Once you have gathered your documents, you can apply online for street number approval. You'll need to upload electronic versions of the required plans in order to complete your application.
