Nominate a local heritage item for listing in the Lake Macquarie Local Environmental Plan.
The State Heritage Inventory is reserved for places and objects that are significant to the entire NSW community. Places of local significance are protected as items on a local environmental plan, managed by local government.
Places and objects that are important because of their association with Aboriginal cultural heritage are protected under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974. These places and objects may also be declared as an Aboriginal Place or added to the State Heritage Register.
Approval for listing an item or place as a local heritage item in the local environmental plan, is made under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
It is essential to research the item you are nominating for potential listing before you submit a nomination. The nominated item must meet at least one of the seven considerations listed in our guideline for local heritage listing(PDF, 134KB).
