Community Recycling Centre

We are planning to construct an additional Community Recycling Facility at Floraville Road, Belmont North to improve access to recycling drop-off services in Lake Macquarie.

The Community Recycling Centre, located at the Awaba Waste Management Facility, is a safe way to dispose of household waste, free of charge.

The following items are currently accepted in household quantities:

  • paints (water and oil-based)
  • gas cylinders (no LPG cylinders from cars)
  • fire extinguishers
  • eWaste (mobile phones and accessories; computers, printers and fax machines; CD and DVDs, televisions, stereos, video, DVD and Blu-ray players; hand-held electronic devices including power tools; portable household appliances including battery powered handheld vacuums)
  • ceiling fans
  • fluorescent light globes and tubes
  • car batteries
  • household batteries and light globes
  • cardboard
  • smoke detectors
  • X-rays
  • Motor oil and other oils
  • Aerosol cans
  • soft plastics (foil/metallic plastics not accepted)
  • CD and DVD covers 
  • polystyrene:  except for
    Beads from bean bags and polystyrene loose fill packaging
    - Put these in a strong plastic bag, expel the air and seal. Place the bag in your red lidded garbage bin.
    Spa covers and polystyrene materials used in construction
    - Can be disposed of as mixed waste by dropping off at the Awaba Waste Management Facility for a fee.

Please wear enclosed shoes when visiting the facility.

The Community Recycling Centre is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, funded by the Waste Levy.
